India is among top 5 countries where babies are born pre-term and is a major contributor to childhood blindness due to Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), especially from the rural areas.
One of the finalists at the PMI South Asia Awards 2023 for the Project of the Year in #NGO Category, is Gurupriya Vision Research Foundation. Guiding the path from darkness to clear vision, their remarkable initiative, ‘Vision on Wheels’, has been a beacon of hope for premature babies in rural Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh since June 2018.
‘Vision on Wheels’ project was aimed at ensuring early diagnosis and timely treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP). As a result of this project it helped in saving 5,000 babies from blindness annually. Despite facing multiple hurdles during COVID, the team worked hard to circumvent all challenges and truly create an impact on the lives of young ones. Watch the video to learn more.
